Coming back

The only thing that makes it easier to be back in self-serving, materialistic ol' USA is re-connecting with family and old friends. Those personal relationships are the only thing I missed when I was away, and I promised myself that I would not let those relationships fall into a state of neglect because I was too busy attending to things that do not ultimately matter to me.

I have been calling my siblings more often. I have re-connected with some friends. I convinced my grandparents to come for a visit. My dad and I are going on a roadtrip soon. I hope this is not a short-term fad, because I realize now what I was missing when I let myself get wrapped up in job stress and daily to-do lists.

We learned an old Maori phrase when we were in New Zealand. "What's the most important thing in life? People, people, people."
